The Altamont Fair began in 1893 as a local agricultural fair in Altamont, New York. It was originally organized to showcase local farming and livestock but over the years the fair has evolved to include a variety of entertainment, rides and food vendors. In 1967, the fair was officially recognized as a New York State Fair because it emphasizes community involvement and local culture through various exhibits and competitions.
